Women's Self Defense ~ a Life2 presentatiion

This session is for women and girls only .....so bring your mothers, daughters, nieces and girlfriends

As we prepare to celebrate International Women’s Day on Friday March 8, Terry Knight is back for another practical session of women’s self defense.

This session is suitable for all ages; attendance at Terry’s December self-defense session is not required.

Self-defense is about doing what is necessary to get away from an attacker to a place of safety. It is not about beating others up!

Attendees will review:

  • Principles of women’s self defense
  • hand weapons
  • kicks

Attendees will learn & practice:

  • Another front choke release
  • Releases from arm, body and hair grabs
  • More hand/body weapons and vulnerable targets
  • Upper/lower blocks to prevent someone from striking you
  • More verbal self defense

We will share more empowering success stories

Wear comfortable clothing that you can be active in (e.g. T-shirt, yoga pants, runners). Please bring a pillow or cushion you can hit and kick.

Drop in fee: $7; annual membership available

About Terry Knight
In a former life, Terry Knight taught high school physical & health education, outdoor & environmental education and science in Waterloo region for 31 years. She became a women's self defense instructor in 1991 after being introduced to it in a workshop several years earlier. Since then, she has taught women's self defense to adults and youth, both in schools and in the community. Terry is also a lead instructor for Outward Bound Canada, and has instructed many Women's Empowerment courses and Women of Courage courses for survivors of abuse. Her interests include: environmental awareness (renewable energy, composting, sustainable consumerism), woodworking, gardening, tai chi, outdoor recreation (cycling, sea kayaking, canoeing, cross country skiing) team building games & activities, and field hockey umpiring.
