February is  National Engineering Month - it is a celebration of engineering excellence.

The week between February 27th and March 6th 2010 in Ontario is dedicated to reaching out to young Canadians, to engage and show them that engineering is an exciting, fun and rewarding career choice.

There will be the 7th Annual Design Challenge for grade 5-6 students in York Region

There will be 2 competitions: 1) using K’NEX system 2)  using LEGO blocks

This is an opportunity for students to enjoy, have fun and win prizes too!

All participants will receive souvenirs and a government participation certificate.

How the Contest Works:

> Build a bridge with aesthetic as well as structural integrity, in a limited amount of time (1 hour) with the least amount of material, with a max. of 500 g, to withstand the highest load at the mid-span. The free span is 30 cm.

> Teams / school [schools can register more than 1 team in either competition or in both , the first team is automatically accepted] . You can register more teams in both competitions that will be placed on a waiting list. If places are available on Feb.10, more teams will be accepted on a first come first served basis. Form teams of 3 students.

Lunch will be provided by the 2 York school boards - YRDSB and YCDSB.  (The location has been provided by the French school board CSDCSO)
