Sports Hall of Fame to Induct WWE and NHL Stars plus Local Hockey Coach and Community Sports Builder

RICHMOND HILL – The Richmond Hill Sports Hall of Fame is excited to recognize Canadian fitness expert and retired World Wrestling Entertainment professional wrestler Trish Stratus, former NHL hockey star Michael Cammalleri, renowned hockey coach Mark Joslin and community sports builder Brian Penrose at the 2025 Richmond Hill Sports Hall of Fame induction ceremony.
Located in Elgin Barrow Arena, the Richmond Hill Sports Hall of Fame was established in 1993 to recognize the exceptional sports achievements and contributions of individuals who were born in or live in Richmond Hill, or teams that represent Richmond Hill. Overseen by a volunteer committee, there have been 62 inductees dating back to as early as 1885 celebrating the City’s rich sports heritage.
For 2025, the inductees are
Four individuals recognized for achieving a high level of success and made significant contributions to the world of sport, bringing pride to the Richmond Hill community:
- Michael Cammalleri – The former NHL hockey star and Richmond Hill native had a distinguished 15-year career playing in over 900 games with five different teams (Los Angeles Kings, Calgary Flames, Montreal Canadiens, New Jersey Devils, Edmonton Oilers). Cammalleri is known for his leadership, scoring ability and exemplary character
- Mark Joslin – A trailblazing coach and mentor, Joslin has played a pivotal role in developing young hockey talent at both the grassroots and professional levels, including Connor McDavid and Mitch Marner. He made history in 2021 by becoming the first black coach to lead a National Women’s Hockey League team
- Brian Penrose – A well-respected coach and builder of sports in Richmond Hill for more than 25 years, Penrose has coached teams to three Ontario Minor Hockey Association championships and has been instrumental in hockey initiatives in the community and across the province
- Trish Stratus – Named the Greatest Female Superstar by WWE with eight championships to her name, Stratus has transcended the world of sports entertainment. Her legacy is marked by her passion for social and community change as well as her dedication to breaking barriers and pushing for equal representation has made her an advocate for women’s empowerment and an inspiring figure worldwide
In addition, two Community Sport Ambassadors will be honoured posthumously for their exceptional service and dedication to the local world of sport:
- Mary Parkinson – A longtime community advocate, Parkinson’s dedication and tireless contributions helped shape recreational hockey in Richmond Hill
- Bruno Sposato – Known for his commitment to youth sports, Sposato is the very epitome of what it means to be a hockey fan. For many, his passion for the game, the players, coaches, and families, was synonymous with hockey in Richmond Hill
The official event will happen January 30, 2025 at the Richmond Hill Centre for the Performing Arts

Well-known sports broadcaster and author Jim Lang will host the event that includes short video presentations, remarks by the inductees, light refreshments, cash bar and a free photobooth to commemorate the celebration.
Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Presentation begins at 7:30 p.m.
