The City of Richmond Hill is designing a lighting feature to welcome everyone to our community. The public is invited to share their ideas on the design of this feature in a short online survey.
A lighting feature will be installed on the median located south of the Yonge Street and Garden Avenue intersection as a gateway to the city. This feature, which will mark the entrance to Richmond Hill, was initiated in York Region’s 2012 Yonge Street South Streetscape Master Plan and was approved by Council in 2013.
In 2022, an online survey was conducted to gather input on how this functional illumination feature could best reflect the community. Feedback from over 390 residents indicated a vision for a sophisticated design that strikes a balance between the history and future of the city through an abstract representation.
Three unique design concepts have been created based on the survey feedback, each capturing a combination of Richmond Hill’s rich cultural and natural heritage through a contemporary lens.

The survey closes on January 17, 2025.
