Spring Greening Speaker Series: Greening Your Ride

Event Date:
Tuesday, May 17, 2022 - 7:00pm

In the spirit of Earth Day, the City of Richmond Hill is hosting a free virtual speaker series.

Each speaker will share their expertise on an important environmental topic. You can learn what we are doing locally and what you can do at home to green your life and help "Green the Hill"!

There is no cost to attend but registration is required.

The fourth speakers are David Simor and Keenan Mosdell: Greening your Ride:  How Walking and Cycling can work in Richmond Hill

While suburban communities have traditionally been very car-centric, they can support thriving walking and cycling cultures. This presentation will illustrate the many public health benefits of active transportation, share lessons learned from successful and unsuccessful suburban active transportation initiatives and provide participants with tools and tips for bike checks and do-it-yourself bike repairs.
The Centre for Active Transportation (TCAT) has a vision of vibrant cities with clean air, a healthy population, and a transportation system that prioritizes walking and cycling. Our mission is to advance knowledge and evidence to build support for safe and inclusive streets for walking and cycling. We believe that active transportation plays a critical role in creating environmentally and economically sustainable cities.

David Simor is the Director of TCAT. An accomplished network builder, he has a wealth of experience bringing communities, researchers, and city staff together to co-create active transportation initiatives that support healthier, more equitable and more sustainable places.

Keenan Mosdell is the Bike Hub Coordinator for TCAT’s Markham Cycles project. An avid advocate for cycling in the suburbs, Keenan is passionate about building cycling culture through community involvement and education.
