Family Astronomy Night at the David Dunlap Observatory

Event Date:
Saturday, January 19, 2019 - 7:00pm to 9:30pm
Event Location:

You and your family can explore the wonders of astronomy through the Astronomy Series programs offered by the Town offered at the David Dunlap Observatory.

Come  learn about one of Nature's most beautiful and often misunderstood spectacles - a Super Blood Moon.  It will occur on January 20th.  This is arare event!  there won't be another one visible from the GTA until 2023!

On this date, the moon will rise fully illuminated and climb high into the sky as expected. But by midnight, the moon will be transformed into a gorgeous red or copper-coloured rendition of its former self.

This program is being provided in advance of the event so participants know what to expect when they watch it from the comfort of their own home.
Instructors will explain what causes this type of Lunar Eclipse and what eclipses can teach us about both the moon and ourselves.

Please wear/bring appropriate supplies for being outdoors.

All registered participants under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a registered adult.

Please arrive 15 minutes prior to the program start time in order to be signed in.

Fee:  $10.
