some advice from Omar at Healthy Planet Richmond Hill

During winter months a lot of people suffer from asthma, bronchitis, and other respiratory ailments due to dry indoor air. In addition to asthma, the symptoms of bronchitis, sinusitis, and other respiratory illnesses, also dermatitis can also worsen if you spend too much time in an environment with overly dry air.

To help with the winter air situation, I like to share a really good tip with you.

Fill up your largest cooking pot with water and add between 1 teaspoon up to 1 tablespoon with sea salt or Himalayan salts and stir.
Bring the water to boil and let evaporate until you significantly increase the humidity in your kitchen.

You create a 'salty ocean air' effect in your living space!

Studies have found that there are therapeutic qualities to ocean air that have helped lung disease patients. The study tested patients with a variety of lung diseases to see if there was a common improvement in symptoms. While patient results were on an individual basis, these were some of the more common results from patients that breathed in the ocean air:

  • Thinner mucus
  • Improved lung function
  • Reduced coughing
  • Decreased sinus pressure

Steam inhalations

If you cannot create ocean air in your living space you can also just inhale 'ocean air' for 5-20 min.

Bring saltwater to a boil in a cooking pot and lean over the steaming water. Carefully cover your head and the cooking pot with a towel so that you do not burn yourself with the hot steam.

Deeply inhale and enjoy the healing and cleansing effect on your skin, mucous membranes, and lungs.
