Every year thousands of bikes are thrown away because they are either unwanted, broken or outgrown. Some of these bikes are in repairable and reusable condition and can be recovered for community benefit. Others can be stripped for usable parts and repair materials. Despite their remaining utility, many of these bikes often end up tossed away.
You can reduce this waste and give your bike a second life by donating it to Recycle to Ride.
Recycle to Ride is a program developed in partnership with York Region, Markham Cycles and Newmarket Cycles.
Bikes donated to the program are used to teach people how to fix bikes and get them back on the road where they belong.
Used bikes, including broken ones, can be donated at the Elgin Mills Community Environmental Centres.
