Night closures of Stouffville Rd - so the salamanders can cross safely

less than 1 minute

York Region is home to the Jefferson Salamander, an endangered species with habitats in the City of Richmond Hill.

Each year, these special amphibians cross Stouffville Road on rainy nights in early spring, leaving their winter habitat to travel to their breeding grounds.

So, there may be intermittent night closures on Stouffville Road between March 24 to May 2. (2025) 9 pm to 5 am

Decisions to close the road overnight are made in the afternoon. For more information, call the region at 1-877-464-9675 ext. 75000 or email [email protected].
