The community is invited to commemorate Emancipation Day.
August 1st marks the actual day in 1834 that the Slavery Abolition Act of 1833 came into effect across the British Empire.
The event will feature the raising of the Pan-African Flag, inspiring speeches including a keynote address by Dr. Jeffrey Thompson, Chair of the York Region Alliance of African Canadian Communities with the topic Emancipation Day - Let Us Measure What Matters and Continue to Improve, a youth representative from 360°kids, and Marsha Simone Cadogan, who will share insights on Black Women's empowerment and her journey, a book display and more!
This event is organized by MP Jowhari, Member of Parliament for Richmond Hill, Mayor West- Mayor of Richmond Hill, Richmond Hill Public Library and York Region Alliance of African Canadian Communities in partnership with 360°kids and many distinguished organizations.
