Established in 2023 by the Canadian Music and Performing Arts Association, the Richmond Hill Music and Performing Arts Festival has quickly become a cherished event for the local community. Inspired by a resident's vision to promote musical arts in Richmond Hill, the festival fills a gap in the Greater Toronto Area by hosting an annual music competition unlike any other.
The festival’s mission goes beyond competition—it’s about celebrating the joy of performance. The organizers understand that students often experience nerves and frustration during competitive events. With this in mind, they strive to create an environment where participants can enjoy their time on stage, whether or not they walk away with top prizes. Their philosophy is clear: happiness and growth matter more than rankings.
The competition features a wide variety of categories, including piano, strings, vocal, brass, woodwinds, guitar, composition, and speech arts. In addition to promoting artistic excellence, the festival offers participants opportunities to broaden their horizons.
One highlight of the event is the presence of Professor Cornelia Herrmann from Austria, the internationally acclaimed musician and winner of the 1996 International Bach Competition in Leipzig. As the festival's International Artistic Director, Professor Herrmann brings a wealth of expertise to the stage. Her piano recital during the award ceremony has become an inspiring feature, demonstrating the value of learning music through live performances rather than solely through competition.
The Richmond Hill Music and Performing Arts Festival is more than an event—it's a celebration of community, artistry, and the power of music.
