The Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis community of the York Region are walking to raise awareness and funds for Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis research, programs, and advocacy.
They are marking 30 years of the Gutsy Walk - three decades of courage, community, and impact; and every step you take helps move us closer to cures.
Impact of Crohn’s and Colitis
Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, the two main forms of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), are lifelong autoimmune diseases that cause the body to attack itself, leading to symptoms like severe abdominal pain, cramping, fatigue, and urgent bowel movements. There are no known cures, and daily life can be unpredictable and isolating.
Canada has one of the highest rates of Crohn’s and colitis in the world, with over 322,000 Canadians living with these challenges. Every 48 minutes, someone in Canada is diagnosed with IBD.
