Stephen Lewis Foundation began in 2003/4 as a result of the vision of Stephen Lewis who had been UN envoy to Africa from 2000 to 2003 researching the AIDS pandemic in Africa. His inspired concept was to consult with the family caregivers in African communities and partner with them to support the programs they needed most. This community-based approach has proven to be most effective for people's health and for adjusting to the changing environment.
