Traditional West African Dance this Black History Month

Join Krasman Centre during Black History Month for an active and educational workshop on Traditional West African dance, featuring guest artist/instructor Zahra Badua accompanied by Kwasi on drums. ZahraMoves specializes in dances from Ghana and Guinea.

Participants will learn:

  • the polyrhythmic patterns as well as the historical and cultural context of these dances and how they represent their livelihood and stories
  • to use their arms, rapid movements of the torso, quick and intricate footwork, and hip isolations
  • traditional songs and rhythmic patterns that accompany these dances
