The Richmond Hill Garden & Horticultural Society strives to encourage students who live and attend schools in Richmond Hill to pursue a career in Horticulture or Environmental Studies.
The Willem Schurman Scholarship is named in honour of a past president and is made available to a graduating student in Richmond Hill. The winning applicant is awarded a $1,000 scholarship and will have a solid academic background combined with summer, part-time, or volunteer experience in gardening or an environmental capacity.
Applications are available using this link and from the Guidance Department in all Richmond Hill secondary schools as well as Richmond Hill Garden & Horticultural Society board members. Applications must be submitted very soon so please compile a note and email it to our coordinator, Mrs. Richards. It should include the following information:
- NAME
- ADDRESS
- PHONE AND EMAIL
- HIGH SCHOOL ATTENDED in Grade 12
- UNIVERSITY/COLLEGE that you’ll be attending
You should write a few paragraphs that:
- Outline your past experience with gardening, horticulture, pollinators, and/or the environment.
- Indicate your field of study and how does it relate to horticulture and/or the environment.
- Outlind your career plans and explain how horticulture is included in these plans.
- Attach a letter of reference from a teacher or employer and a copy of a current transcript or report indicating your academic achievement.
