L.L. Contemporary is delighted to announce the forthcoming solo exhibition by Beverley Rosenberg titled 'Role Play.'
The opening reception will take place on Saturday, April 27, from 1 to 5 pm, with the artist in attendance.
This exhibition will be in conjunction with the inaugural Canadian Art Hop, organized by the Art Dealers Association of Canada (ADAC), the largest representation of private and commercial art galleries in Canada. Featuring over 60 ADAC member galleries, along with artist-run centers and public institutions, attendees will discover the best of art across the major cities in Canada.
In Rosenberg’s artistic practice, she delves into the realm of role-playing, employing painting as a medium to explore the complexities of identity, perception, and human interaction. Through her work, she aims to challenge conventional notions of self-representation and societal roles by inviting viewers into a world where the boundaries between reality and fiction blur.
Rosenberg's artistic process often involves a combination of observation, imagination, and improvisation. Drawing inspiration from diverse sources such as literature, mythology, psychology, and personal experiences, she creates compositions that are both mysterious and evocative, encouraging viewers to project their own narratives onto the canvas. Within her paintings, she utilizes the concept of role play to investigate the fluid nature of identity and the masks individuals wear in various contexts. Each canvas serves as a stage where characters emerge, defined not solely by their physical appearance but by the roles they undertake. Ultimately, her paintings act as gateways to parallel worlds where the boundaries between self and other, truth and fiction, become indistinct. By inviting viewers to partake in the act of role play, she aspires to stimulate discussions about the essence of identity, empathy, and human connection in an increasingly intricate and fragmented world.
About the Artist
Beverley Rosenberg graduated from OCAD University in 1999 and currently lives and works in Toronto. Her chosen mediums of expression include acrylics, inks, and pastels applied to canvas, paper, and wood. She creates original paintings and drawings that delve into human emotions, internal landscapes, and relationship dynamics. With a sketchbook always by her side, her creations directly respond to her surroundings and the revelations they offer. While her works may initially appear childlike, they harbor multiple layers of complexity. Beneath their seemingly simple surfaces lie vibrant, sometimes intense emotional undercurrents, eliciting visceral experiences for the viewer. Rosenberg’s works have been showcased in group exhibitions such as the Yumart Gallery, Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition, AWOL Gallery, Norman Felix Gallery, Embassy, and Art Crawl. She was honored with the Telford Fenton Memorial Award at the Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition in 2013.
