Virtual Open Houses to Shape Neighbourhoods In Richmond Hill

Event Date:
Thursday, January 30, 2025 - 7:00pm to 9:00pm

Have your say in the Comprehensive Zoning By-law for the city’s Neighbourhoods.

The City of Richmond Hill is hosting two virtual open houses to provide an opportunity to discuss and share your ideas on a new Comprehensive Zoning By-law for various Neighbourhood areas.

  • Thursday, January 30, 7 – 9 p.m., virtual meeting
(focusing on areas south of Elgin Mills Road)

  • Thursday, February 13, 7 – 9 p.m. virtual meeting
(focusing on areas north of Elgin Mills Road)

Updating the Neighbourhood Zoning By-law is one of the initiatives Richmond Hill committed to in its Housing Accelerator Fund (HAF) agreement with the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC). Through this initiative, Richmond Hill will consider introducing rules that would allow more diverse housing options such as triplexes, fourplexes, townhouses, low-rise apartments and walk-up apartments in low-density Neighbourhood areas, change the parking requirements in transit areas and review policies that could help innovative housing construction.

Zoning By-laws help the City use land by establishing standards concerning how land may be used, where buildings and structures can be placed, and many other important aspects of development such as building height, density, setbacks (e.g., the distance between a building and a street), landscaping and parking. Your input will help shape our community.

Richmond Hill’s Zoning By-laws will implement the vision and policies of the City’s Official Plan, which provides long-term guidance in building and growing our vibrant community.
