One sip, many stories. One circle, many hearts.
Catholic Community Services of York Region has received funding from the Government of Canada’s New Horizons for Seniors Program (NHSP). The funds are being used to support Chai and Chat—a grassroots initiative that provides senior women from diverse cultural backgrounds with a welcoming space to connect, build friendships, and share in meaningful conversations over tea.
Launching Wednesday, June 25, 2025, Chai and Chat will run every Wednesday, 1:30 to 3:30 pm and Saturday 10:30 to 12:30, at the CCSYR office at 50 High Tech Road, Richmond Hill.
Senior women will actively shape the experience by bringing in cultural tea traditions, leading discussions, and participating in wellness-focused workshops.
While a simple cup of tea serves as the symbol of gathering, the program addresses a deeper need—to reduce isolation, foster inclusion, support mental well-being, and build intergenerational and intercultural bridges.
New Horizons for Seniors Program is a federal grants and contributions program whose goal is to support projects that help improve the well-being of seniors and foster social inclusion and engagement in their communities.
