Walk & Learn Tour - Church Street and Yonge Street Enterprise

Event Date:
Sunday, May 4, 2025 - 1:00pm to 3:00pm
Event Location:

Enjoy a walk through a historic neighbourhood and discover your community heritage!

Established by order of Lieutenant-Governor John Graves Simcoe in the 1790s, Yonge Street served a significant role in history, bringing settlers and commerce northward from York, to found new communities. By the early 19th century, Yonge Street with the development of businesses, homes and institutions, saw the creation of a new village.

Although time has brought many changes to Richmond Hill's "Main Street", some landmarks can still be seen that date back to a time when Yonge Street was a dirt road, and the horse and buggy was the preferred means of transportation.

This walk starts at the Richmond Hill Heritage Centre (19 Centre Street North). Look for the Walk and Learn sandwich board.

Registration is not required.  There is no fee.

This walk is organized by the City of Richmond Hill Heritage Department and is facilitated by the Richmond Hill Historical Society.

The duration of the walk is 90 minutes to 2 hours

Tours run rain or shine. Wear appropriate attire for walking outdoors.
