Beyond Our Borders - talking with Petronella about a school in Uganda

less than 1 minute

I met Petronella Ochom while participating in a program endorsed by the Charter for Compassion, Peace Games.

In this "game' we were put in a breakout room.  What did we have in common? We wanted to knit a stronger community.

In the third week into this on line course, Petronella told us how she was being pulled into help raise funds to construct accomodation for the teachers. Petronella is the president of her local Rotary Club.

Why does there need to be teachers accomodations?  I did a podcast with her and found out.  Basically, the teachers come from a distance that is so difficult to travel especially when it is raining, which it often is.

Currently the student to teacher ratio is over 100 to 1.

In this link there are some pictures of the proposed teachers accomodation.

One of the students at the school won a speaking contest and the prize was an energy efficient stove for the school.  Now the students don't have to bring as much wood to school and they can get their lunch faster.
