York Region organizes Flu Clinics

MPP Daisy Wai's office urges you to get a flu shot.

On the morning of November 18th, MPP Daisy Wai attended and participated in a flu clinic located at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 375 in Richmond Hill.

While the flu shot has been in high demand during the COVID-19 pandemic this year, it is still available around York Region, including Richmond Hill, at Flu Clinics organized by the Region of York.  All safety measures are adhered to, including physical distancing, and patients have specific times to go and receive their vaccine. Extra strength doses are available for seniors.  Check out their website and register NOW.

MPP Daisy Wai reinstates that this year she is encouraging residents in Richmond Hill to get their flu shot so that it will not complicate the condition during this challenging time of COVID-19. “I urge everyone to get their flu vaccine at one of the clinics, your local doctor’s office, or at a local participating pharmacy to protect our community. This year it’s more important than ever to get your flu vaccine early to help protect yourself and others from severe illness and reduce the burden on our health care system during the COVID-19 pandemic.”

By all accounts our flu campaign has resulted in more Ontarians getting the flu shot, and earlier, than ever before. As of November 1st, over 4.7 million doses of the flu vaccine have been distributed – more than 1 million doses compared to the same time last year.

In a typical year, by the end of October Ontario’s pharmacies have administered between approximately 200,000 to 250,000 flu shots – this year, they have provided just over 1 million doses. A successful piece of our campaign has been to prioritize vulnerable populations in long-term care homes, hospitals, and other vulnerable settings. Last month early shipments were prioritized to these settings.

Through our Keeping Ontarians safe plan, we have set aside $26.5 million in order to purchase additional flu vaccine doses once they are available through the national vaccine bulk procurement program. We continue to urge high-risk Ontarians to contact their local health care providers to set up an appointment for the flu vaccine.

We will continue to receive more supplies of the vaccine.  “I thank the Region for organizing these well-run flu clinics and encourage residents to register now at york.ca/flu.” says MPP Wai.
