World Mental Health Day (10 October) is an international day for global mental health education, awareness and advocacy against social stigma.
This year's theme is "Mental Health is a Human Right:
Richmond Hill MP Majid Jowhari hosted an event at the Welcome Centre on October 10. It was an opportunity to discuss the importance of mental health, share updates on government initiatives, and engage in meaningful dialogue with community leaders.
- The National Suicide Prevention hotline will be launched nationwide crisis hotline, 988, on Nov.30,2023, providing a free texting or calling service for Canadians struggling with mental health challenges.
- The controversial Medical Assistance and Dying (MAID) (Bill C-314) for those with mental health challenges is slated to go into effect in March, 2024.
- The York South Simcoe Canadian Mental Health Association did a presentation with a focus on lonliness.
- Individuals from High Notes Avante, Home on the Hill and the autism program offered by CCSYR also spoke.
Majid's goal -"By uniting our voices, we aim to foster understanding, reduce stigma, and champion the rights of those grappling with mental health challenges."
